- Shirokuma has been a manufacturer and distributor of baby carriers since 2000.
We only design and produce products that truly help with childrearing based on the
concept of "babywearing," which means holding a baby in close contact and hence
building a bond and relationship of trust between you and your baby.
Shirokuma slings and onbuhimos are sold at 40 major department stores in Japan and are rated as among the safest and best designed slings in Japan. We received a special award under the Universal Design Awards from the Government of Japan in 2008 and the first Good Design Award among baby slings in 2009. This shows the recognition that Shirokuma slings and onbuhimos promote healthy development of babies and building of a child-parent bond.
Our employees are all female and have a wide range of experience in childrearing. This helps us understand user needs and feelings.
Even the twine used to sew our slings is dyed and woven in Japan and the textile of
our onbuhimos is also made in Japan. By manufacturing our slings and onbuhimos at a first-rate factory in Japan and by using textiles produced by a premium Japanese textile maker, we are able to maintain the highest-level safety of our products.
We also conduct research on the health of babies, babywearing and carrying babies on one's back for product development and to provide explanations about the benefits of babywearing.
